Your Adventure to Balanced Living
My approach as a Certified Nutrition Therapist is to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to lead healthy and balanced lives through the use of whole foods, therapeutic supplementation, stress management and functional movement that fit each individual’s needs and state of being. I will guide you on your wellness adventure as you consciously pursue living life to its fullest potential; as you discover nourishment and balance through food, fitness and forests and the use of a wide range of practical and effective tools and lifestyle support techniques.
Your diet and lifestyle should not:
- Impede your health, activities, work or family life
- Make you depressed, bloated, anxious, irritable, tired, overweight, underweight, or cause pain anywhere along the digestive tract
- Cause you guilt, worry, anxiety or confusion
Your diet and lifestyle should:
- Support your general health, activity level, work, and aspirations
- Feel comfortable, but be appetizing and satisfying
- Help you feel centered and clean with a clear and focused mind and disposition
- Keep your weight and energy at a comfortable and optimal level
Ideally, you should get all the nutrients you need from a balanced, healthy diet. Unfortunately, the speed and stresses of modern life encourage the consumption of foods that inhibit rather than optimize your health. With so many of our foods heavily contaminated with chemical preservatives, artificial colors and flavors, environmental pollutants, antibiotics and synthetic hormones; your body’s systems begin to function poorly and become overburdened with toxins that accumulate in the body.
- Specific nutrients can modify the risk of disease. Optimal health is related to appropriate nutrient consumption.
- Everything that occurs throughout the body is a result of messages the body receives from the foods we eat, nutrients we consume, stress in our life, activity levels and patterns and exposure to environmental and industrial toxins
- 2/3 of all deaths were related to diet and that diet affects the development of chronic disease. Fruits and vegetables protect against such diseases.
- It takes 5-7 times the normal amount of nutrition to build and repair the body than it does to maintain.
- The body needs the correct ingredients to continually rebuild itself, energize itself and maintain health.
-The Journal of the Certified Natural Health Professional
The result of imbalance: the inability of your body and mind to function at its highest potential. This imbalanced state of being, as minor as it might be, often leads to mood disorders, chronic health problems and debilitating illness, as well as unnecessary hormonal imbalances and weight management issues.
The Need for Balance
Earth and Water Wellness was developed with the hope of helping people lead the most fulfilling life possible. If your diet, eating patterns and lifestyle are not supporting you physically, mentally and emotionally; chronic pain, suffering and degenerative conditions may develop.
What’s the solution? Consider the whole person, not the symptom and consider the whole body look at each person individually. Every person is biologically unique and has very different needs. In order to address those needs, a unique program must be developed for every individual. One size does not fit all.
My approach to wellness is balance and moderation. Becoming authentically healthy requires a program of nutrition and exercise that strengthen your specific state of being, clearing any physical, emotional or chemical toxins and balancing out the metabolic and hormonal systems through stress management and our daily actions.

The Earth and Water Wellness Recipe
The core essence of Earth and Water Wellness is based on the need to de-stress the body, mind and life in order to regain balance and satisfaction in order to live your good life.
The recipe for balance = good food + good thoughts + good actions + daily movement + daily nothing.
This recipe blends science, tradition, care for the environment, love of cooking, growing, playing and the human need for nourishment along with the basic principle of moderation into a yummy soup seasoned with intuition and self-love; allowing you to nurture and celebrate life while becoming a steward of your body as well as a steward of the earth.
Healthy People create a Healthy Planet!
The ingredients = those elements specific to you that will nourish your body, brain and being...and support the elimination of total toxic loads and chronic stress. But, how do we determine what the specific ingredients are for you?
Wellness Assessment & Adventure Development
Nutrition Therapists take a comprehensive health history as their primary tool for assessment. Any program that doesn’t take your likes & dislikes, lifestyle and unique biochemistry into account is destined to fail. More importantly, the program must be one that you can work into your daily life so that it becomes habitual and sustainable.
Assessment Tools Considered When Developing Your Program
- Client questionnaires (symptom assessment, health history, food review and lifestyle patterns)
- Drug/nutrient interactions considerations
-
Functional testing may be used to gather more in depth information
-
Blood chemistry tests and the functional nutritional interpretation of these tests
- Patterns, symptoms, specific test results and assessments
- Mental and Emotional triggers and patterns in your eating and lifestyle patterns
Essential Ingredients for Balance Good Food + Good Thoughts + Good Actions + Good Surroundings (people, places, things) - Chronic Stress (physical, emotional, chemical) + a daily dose of Nothing = Good Days, Good Moods, and a Good Life. |
Good Food and Metabolic Balance
The cornerstone of functional nutrition refers to the use of food to maintain health and the therapeutic use of food and supplemental nutrition to manage and support imbalances. Foods that will strengthen and support your body's physiological systems are the foods and nutrients that should be included in your program.
Simplicity -- the simpler the food, the better it usually is for you. Look at the ingredient list on a package of food; if the list is extensive with many words that you don’t know, don’t eat it. If ya can't read it, don't eat it! An apple is an apple. A carrot is a carrot and even some brands of ice cream contain just milk, sugar and cream. But, what is a low-fat, no-sugar apple carrot turnover delight?
"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."
-Hippocrates
Examining the clinical imbalances that underlie a condition offers a greater ability to correct the imbalances. Common imbalances often include:
- Digestive, absorptive, and microbiological imbalances
- Hormonal and neurotransmitter imbalances
- Detoxification dysfunction and metabolic imbalances
- Immune imbalances and inflammation
- Structural imbalances, from cellular membrane function to musculoskeletal systems
A Functional Nutrition & Blood Chemistry Analysis provides the information necessary to develop a comprehensive and personalized program specific to your needs and current state of being. Based on a Comprehensive Wellness Profile offered through DirectLabs, a functional analysis will be completed to determine any metabolic or nutritional imbalances present.
Good Thoughts and Inner Balance
Whole-self well-being is, in part, the result of a harmonious flow of energy between our physical and mental selves. When this flow is thrown out of balance for any reason, the body and mind react to one another rather than act cooperatively. Acute trauma or chronic, ongoing stress, sadness, anxiety, excitement, and fear can overwhelm the cerebral self, causing traumatic energy to be channeled into the body. The body then responds by taking steps to dispel this negative energy and expressing it by means of physical symptoms such as illness, fatigue, or disease.
In some cases, these symptoms can simply be allowed to run their natural course and recovery will come about naturally. However, in most instances, health and wellness can only be restored by a dual course of treatment that acknowledges both the physical and emotional clearing and detoxification processes.
Consider enrolling in the group wellness support classes - Base Camp & Food Freedom. These classes provide the foundational work for body and mind detox and clearing.
Also, consider joining the monthly "Tea and Transformation" calls. Group discussions that will make you think about how you think-nourishment for your soul and inner mind.
Good Actions and Daily Movement
Moving is an essential part of life. Our bodies were made to move. One part of the equation essential for hormone balancing, blood sugar stabilization and immune boosting, for example, includes exercise, best performed in the fresh air and sunshine.
Consider signing up for a local event - a run or bike ride - that supports a cause that you care about or are interested in supporting. Need help training or getting started? Join the monthly "Get Out & Play" events. Okay, these events are not going to get you ready to run a marathon, but they will get you moving and give you a new perspective on healthy activity through interactive hikes, outdoor play and inner-self discovery events. Topics vary monthly, but expect to spend time outdoors...and maybe get a little dirty!
Good Environment and Lifestyle Support
Through the Wellness Assessments and consults, we will also address lifestyle patterns and issues that may be affecting your heath and happiness; issues such as stress, sleep, diet, exercise and emotional balance will be discussed to ensure body, mind and lifestyle well-being.
Consider a personalized Lifestyle Home Retreats to learn the do's and don'ts of decluttering your home and kitchen so that it provides you with a nourishing and inviting space to be in.
Natural Stress Management & Detoxification
Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. A gentle cleansing of body, mind and lifestyle can be beneficial in a myriad of ways, including improved health, mental clarity, restful sleep and recharged vitality.
When we become more conscious of ourselves, we become more conscious of the impact that our lifestyle has on our health and well-being. We also see how our actions may indirectly impact the environmental health both locally and globally. Through the foods that we eat, the activities that we choose, the places that we surround ourselves in and by balancing your life through natural systems, you will ground yourself and be more able to tackle the daily challenges of life.
Consider participating in the monthly "Reconnection Retreats"- interactive hikes, outdoor play and inner-self discovery events. Topics vary monthly, but expect to spend time outdoors.
