The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations has put together a very informative webpageoutlining the main arguments against GMOs. These include the fact that genes can end up in unexpected places and can mutate with harmful effect. There can be a tremendous impact on birds, insects and soil. There can be transfer of allergenic genes. (One allergenic Brazil-nut gene was transferred into a soybean variety and not discovered till the testing phase.) And genetic engineering has the potential to make ordinary foods toxic to some people.
Candy Corn: Just High-Fructose Corn Syrup in Disguise!
Does Halloween and Fall bring up the fond memories or gorging on all those FUN treats and candy corns? Americans are set to spend $8 billion on Halloween this year, with huge food corporations taking in the majority of the haul. Many of the popular processed treats they're peddling contain high levels of artificial colors, outrageous amounts of sugar, or levels of acidity that can damage tooth enamel.
Don't Get Tricked by all those "impostors"... Enjoy REAL FOOD and Eat these Treats!
Harvest Pumkin Muffins
Forget about the sugary candy corn and caramel-covered apples — these muffins are one of my favorite healthy fall treats. I generally make most of my muffin recipes with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free flour, but you can always choose to use whole-wheat flour for the all-purpose flour — and if you can find it, organic raw honey is your best bet.
